Come Wright in | The kitchen remodel that took two years.

The day we bought the house our kitchen looked like this:

The day I took the photographs of the finished product, the kitchen we worked so long and hard renovating is the day I realized what I never imagined I’d feel.
I can remember the feeling of disgust, hatred and total annoyance during every step of the process. The amount of dirt, labor and unexpected expenses involved makes it hard for me to believe I’m feeling this way but I have to say I’m 100% absolutely in love with the renovation process more so then the actual kitchen itself… so much that I’d sell our house just to do it all over again.

There’s something so satisfying about putting your stamp on a home, and even better an old 1901 home bringing it back to life. This kitchen came stocked with gross features we were able to either paint over, decorate or simply deal with until this remodel took place. The countertops were a lovely shade of peach swirl tile with a quarter inch grout to savor every crumb or liquid left behind. A doorway between the kitchen and the family room so uninviting it made you feel like you were entering a bedroom. And lastly the three different types of flooring laid on the main level of the house.

We finished this reno last summer and it feels good. Now on to projects unseen to the eye… insulation.

Pearls and plaids must be had

Plaid shirt  |  J. Crew pearl necklace  |  Vintage Coach handbag

So you could say I fancy plaids. There may never be a shortage of pearls or plaids in my closet or somethings gone wrong because these two elements are timeless classics in my eyes.

I’d like to say I wallpapered my family room with a plaid I created and copied from my J. Crew flannel unfortunately it’s just me having some fun in photoshop. You never know though: interior inspiration?

Color Coded

Color coded | Three Color Dressing

Try wearing no more than three colors per outfit; excluding tonals of any one of those three colors. This is an easy way to make your look more interesting.

Things to note:
// Black and white are technically shades
You can be more flexible about integrating these into your outfits. For example, you can wear four colors if one of them is white.
// Metal jewelry
Stick to one shade for each outfit, either gold or silver, particularly for chunky jewelry like statement necklaces and watches. I sometimes break this rule because I like mixed metal but I think sticking with one shade helps with simplicity.
//Red lips count!

You don’t have to dress like this all the time but this can be a helpful tip when putting a look together.
Here are some examples of dressing in colors of three:

Color me tartan

Excuse me while I talk vintage for a second…
The seek can be daunting but the treasures rewarding, especially when stumbled upon. This blazer came from a gigantic loft-sized vintage clothing store in Williamsburg, Brooklyn called 10 ft. Single by Stella Dallas for $29. I’m realizing slowly the more I search for great vintage pieces, the less I buy and the longer I end up keeping pieces in my wardrobe.

2013 goal :: buy smart.

The price is Wright | January’s eBay share

January’s eBay share: Vintage Celine handbag

January’s Loving everything about this handbag I bought last month. It arrived in pristine condition at just a fraction of the dollar amount it would have cost me brand new. Not only was the listing price already reasonable, I was able to get the seller to come down about 15% just by asking. It never hurts and most people enjoy the interest you have in their items as long as you’re reasonable with your requests. eBay, thanks for the addiction.

Shine bright like a… sequin

Bomber jacket  |  Slouchy tee (old but similar here)  |  Watch
Sometimes a little shine on a summer time classic (ex. baseball jacket) paired with a photo sesh in front of florescent purple dumpsters can make anyones day feel complete. Naturally, right? Having said that I’m spent.

Dressing in the morning is rapidly growing more ridiculous everyday as the temperatures decline. I can’t begin to describe how un-motivating it is to wear anything that doesn’t support wearing while hiding the most unattractive thick white sport socks every single day. By the time I’ve managed to get my bangs to lie down in the right direction, my face somewhat applied, 2 cups of coffee down the hatch and some corner of the house re-organized I’m finally left with one task and one task only… taking my super thick, extra soft, oversized robe off to slip into anything but that. And by the time I’ve made it to that point it’s time to go, 15 minutes ago. That’s why I’m considering this $52 bomber my favorite fall piece because ultimately, it makes me feel like I “shine bright like a sequin” in nothing more then just that!

ABOUT THE BLOG

Wright for Michele is a Portland based lifestyle blog devoted to cultivating stylish, relatable and creative content. It also serves as a personal time capsule of my family’s journeys, giggling and stumbling a bit, through it all.

I started "Wright for Michele" back in 2010 as a creative outlet and to share the things I love (basically the exact same reason the rest of the internet started blogging). Often this blog is about family, sometimes it’s about style, and in general it’s about life and how you (and me) can make every single area in it, better. It’s simple, it’s real (sometimes a little raw and almost always full of grammatical errors), it’s honest and hopefully no matter what it’s a little sweet.
