Freedom calls | 4th of July

We moved into our home exactly 2 years ago this month. I remember thinking about the times we’d have in the future, with our own children running amok amidst loud giggles in and out of the house, with watermelon dribbles, stubbed toes and friends, lots of friends. It was a distant thought, like something we wouldn’t see for years, and by years I mean decades because well, growing from a 5 pound itty bitty baby to a talking, self eating toddler really should not happen in just 20 months. Luckily I’m among a hefty group of new parents that can fully understand the exact moment I’m in, we’re all in really, because life is short, but it’s even shorter when you live through the eyes of your littlest adventurer. And poof, just like that they’re 35 years old saying the same thing with their own children.

It’s not uncommon for someone to ask me what it’s like to raise twins when I’m out with them. My answer is always a guilty conscious from having to split precious time between two growing babies. With that, I take my hat off to moms of multiples at different ages, doing completely different things at different times and spreading time between each so gracefully. Some days I have Marlowe on my hip all day. But it’s been like this from day one. I can remember getting incredibly upset at the baby owning the upper right quadrant of my belly who was kicking me to death whenever i’d sit down to relax at night, quite literally to the point I’d have to push my hand down on her and yell for her to go back to sleep. I knew from those later months of my pregnancy that this little Marlowe of ours would be a little more needy, authoritative and sensitive. And the bottom left quadrant baby, our little Macie Lou, she’d be our quiet, independent, care taking sweetheart. It’s almost as if they were paired to be raised side by side, Macie always knowing sissy would need more attention. And Marlowe stepping aside when Macie needs me to focus on her. It’s a beautiful relationship, one I’m so honored to be a part of.

So anyways, that felt good to chat proud mom talk. Now back to friends, lots of friends, and watermelon dribbles and stubbed toes, and kicking off the Fourth of July weekend by opening our home to our closest friends (at least the ones left in town) for beer, bbq and babies. A little photo evidence below…

Christmas Trees and Cool Kids

1 2 3 4 5 5b 6 7 8b

We went out and plucked our Christmas trees yesterday with our friends and from the looks of my Facebook and Instagram feed, so did everybody else. It was a perfect day for it and if you did it ‘Wright’ you paired it with a little coffee and a lot of Bailey’s/Kahlua in your cup and an impromptu photo session.
I decorated for Christmas almost 2 weeks ago so our Christmas tree felt right at home wrapped in bright blue twinkles. Christmas music is playing and I’m considering eating pumpkin pie for breakfast.

Events & Moments

Good morning beautiful.

Morning: The best time of day… I mean really! Even on a work day. The smells, the food, the sounds of spoons clanking coffee cups. The whistle of milk being steamed. Birds talking to one another. Pesky woodpeckers up early trying to one up everyone. Starting fresh. The morning stretch. The crisp air no matter what time of year.  Breathing!

Just a lovely quote I stumbled upon:
“When you awaken love and laughter in your life, your mind lets go of fear and anxiety, and your happy spirit becomes the healing balm that transforms every aspect of your human experience.” Jesse Dylan

So true.
Keep smiling, do what makes you feel good and believe in yourself.
Celebrate the weekend!

Portland To Coast | Thong Distance Walkers

The 31st annual Hood To Coast Relay was last weekend. It is one of the longest and largest relays in the world with 18,000 total participants. The course runs approximately 200 miles from Timberline Lodge on the slopes of Mount Hood, through the Portland metropolitan area, and over the Oregon Coast Range to the beach town of Seaside on the Oregon Coast.
Walkers can choose to compete in the Portland To Coast which is the last 127 miles of Hood to Coast and what my team participated in. Sure, walking… DONE! Okay, I feel duped seeing that walking was not as effortless as I assumed. Nor did anyone warn me about the muscles used when trying to get somewhere fast without RUNNING. I mean really. It’s kind of ridiculous how unprepared I was for this. I pulled both hip flexers due to forward hip flex swing motion that I was convinced would get me from A to B faster. I know I probably looked amazing and all making those motions but I should have just saved it for the dance floor. Which is exactly what we did after celebrating our finish on the beach. My feet needed more of a beating and honestly I could have used one more injury; a stiff neck from hair whipping. You’d be proud Claire, Michelle and Megan.
Anyways, big THANKS to Heather for inviting me to be a part of the team this year and for organizing it all. It was more fun then imagined and would totally do it again.

American flags, cupcakes, sunshine and the like

2012 offered Portland a beautiful July 4th and has continued to do so since. The forecast is nothing short of 80 degree clear blue sky days and continues to be for days.

Jeff and I joined my family on my aunt and uncles boat in the early afternoon to BBQ. Later we headed to a friends festive American backyard party; topping off the day with jello shots, libations and good friends. Unfortunately Jeff and I had to attend to our oversized shitzu before we were able to see any fireworks. He’s all man until he hears a boom, melts my heart.

Cinco de Mayo, aka Kelly’s Birthday Fiesta

May has always been my favorite month but this year was unlike any other.
It’s been a crazy ride, blog post overload back up.

Cinco de Mayo, aka Kelly’s Birthday Fiesta.
Pin the tail on Kelly’s ass, smack the shit out of a pinata for 30 minutes and jello shots in an orange peel. Need I say more?

Outfit:
Vintage skirt fit perfect for a fiesta found at pop-up shop, Darling Buds of May; $30.
Silver stud bracelet found at Forever 21; $9.80.
Hand full of amazing rings from Kelly’s jewelry drawer… best place to visit!

Thanks for the great party!

ABOUT THE BLOG

Wright for Michele is a Portland based lifestyle blog devoted to cultivating stylish, relatable and creative content. It also serves as a personal time capsule of my family’s journeys, giggling and stumbling a bit, through it all.

I started "Wright for Michele" back in 2010 as a creative outlet and to share the things I love (basically the exact same reason the rest of the internet started blogging). Often this blog is about family, sometimes it’s about style, and in general it’s about life and how you (and me) can make every single area in it, better. It’s simple, it’s real (sometimes a little raw and almost always full of grammatical errors), it’s honest and hopefully no matter what it’s a little sweet.
