Wright this down | Coastal for NYE

:: Cannon Beach, OR ::
Cannon Beach granted us every glory the Oregon Coast provides. Hikes to travel on for miles with views, beautiful sunsets that lit the sky, sea life for days, and that iconic massive rock called Haystack that reminds me how lucky I am every time I see it. I think we started a tradition.
Our holiday vacation in photographs. And it felt even better then it looks. This year needed to be different and the escape was just what we needed. I’m not one to make new years resolutions but do fancy the idea that we all get to hit a refresh button at the drop of the ball, and that’s exactly what I did. And even though I do not plan to make any resolutions, I do think I’m starting to be better about being in the here and now. I’m learning to thrive in the day to day, letting things come as they will and it feels really good.

The time is grey

1-1
Do you ever wish time could stop in one moment, long enough to just BE, absorbing every detail, sound and feeling surrounded by that moment? As I spend the last week of 2013’s existence staring out onto one of earths most magical places, I find myself holding my breathe wishing for more time.

Never closing our blinds to the sea we watch the crab boats inch closer and closer to shore in the dark of the night. The sun is rising now and the tide is hugging the beach, erasing yesterdays footprints, forming a fresh start. The ocean is singing and the sky is grey making it difficult to see where the ocean and sky meet. Jeff is still sleeping. I can’t wait to get out in the ocean air, it’s going to be a beautiful blue sky day.

Every year my family comes down to Cannon Beach the day after Christmas to spend time together. We stay at the most adorable beach funky Inn on Cannon Beach’s shore just steps from Haystack Rock where my family has been visiting since my dad and aunt were children. I have fond memories as a child here and adore my families sense of humor, we are always laughing. I can remember my dad getting me excited that he found a great big seashell, when I reached down to pick it up it crumbled in my hand, it was bird poo! The beach isn’t called the beach, we call it the bitch. So imagine taking your dogs out and saying, “lets go kick sand on the bitch” or “lets go pee and poop on the bitch”. This year we’re missing my dad, brother and his wife and kids but next year we’ll do it all over again. Until then, I’m absorbing every moment one day at a time.

Wright this down | Trillium Lake, OR

The Wright family packed the car Sunday for a day trip to Trillium Lake near Government Camp, OR.  The Loop Trail is a 5 miles primarily used for snowshoeing. It was a perfect sun drenched weekend to see the land naked before snow fall. Amazing views of Mount Hood and the trail crosses wetlands for bird watching opportunities. On our way back we drove through Hood River to taste some vino at our favorite wineries, Marchesi and Cathedral Ridge followed by lunch at Double Mountain. Perfect portland/Hood day loop! dsc_0149 dsc_0174 dsc_0181 dsc_0187 dsc_0189 dsc_0197 dsc_0202 dsc_0207

Wright this down | Zig Zag River

As I enter this post I’m preparing my bags for another camp trip… the 3rd Annual Cape Perpetua Camping Shit Show! It’s one of those events you prepare all week for, you know, drinking copious amounts of water, lots of sleep and quiet spaces because there, you won’t find any.

The fourth of July RULED! I say that and miss you Ali, who’s traveling the world for the next year. Zig Zag River had beautiful views, white waters and was shockingly quiet for one the most active camp weekends of the summer. I prefer my campsite ‘nature only’ status and that’s exactly what this was. Basically a spot to make a fire, a view to look at and some flat spaces for tents. And, conveniently right off Highway 26. Pack your dogs and get up there!

It’s been over 20 years since I’d last been to San Diego so it felt good cruising the coastline for a few days.
I drove into San Diego from Palm Springs and picked up Jeff from the airport then headed North to Fallbrook to watch our good friends Crystal and Justin get married. The next morning Jeff and I drove through Oceanside, Carlsbad and Encinitas, b-bopped around Solana Beach and crashed in Del Mar for the evening. Followed by a day at Torrey Pines State Reserve for a beautiful hike and a drink at Torrey Pines Golf Course. We cruised into Downtown San Diego for our last night and finished an urban day trek in Coronado.

Goal:  live happy. explore daily. work differently.  …and build the color palette while seeking sun and being inspired by the outdoors with no interruptions.

three designers
two days
one creative director
65 lbs of color chips
a whole lotta optimism…

Three days of immersing ourselves in outdoor activities while surrounded by color and design inspiration is an incredible and productive way to work. On our trip to Palm Springs we hiked Joshua Tree, Palm Canyon, went on an amazing Architecture Tour and worked the color palette for Spring 2015! Then cheers’d to the end of a rewarding assignment.

Thankful for the awesome experience and to be surrounded by inspiring talent everyday.

ABOUT THE BLOG

Wright for Michele is a Portland based lifestyle blog devoted to cultivating stylish, relatable and creative content. It also serves as a personal time capsule of my family’s journeys, giggling and stumbling a bit, through it all.

I started "Wright for Michele" back in 2010 as a creative outlet and to share the things I love (basically the exact same reason the rest of the internet started blogging). Often this blog is about family, sometimes it’s about style, and in general it’s about life and how you (and me) can make every single area in it, better. It’s simple, it’s real (sometimes a little raw and almost always full of grammatical errors), it’s honest and hopefully no matter what it’s a little sweet.
